Cameron International fills Spec Building

Spec Building.jpg
Cameron International makes an expansion move to Bowie Texas. The Bowie Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) speculative building, located at 3059 US Hwy 81, N, has been completed and leased as a maintenance facility to Cameron International. Move-in for Cameron began in December 2012 and are now in full operation at the Bowie facility.

BEDC built the speculative (Spec) building in 2003 as an economic development tool for Bowie. They left the flooring inside the building uncompleted and ready for the complete build-out for the right company. That 'right' company came along approximately 1 year ago and the process to complete the building to the specifications for Cameron International began. The five-year lease contract was signed in June 2012 and construction of the building 'build-out' began. The final construction walk was held just days prior to Thanksgiving in November 2012 and the final keys were handed over on December 1, 2012. "A thanksgiving in it's self and a boost that the BEDC Team needed here in Bowie" states the Economic Development Director.

Cameron is a $8 trillion international company that manufactures valves, many of which are used in the energy industry. The firm will inventory materials at the Bowie location, but will also overhaul and repair equipment at this location. The Bowie site is expected to employee 15.

The five-year lease agreement with Cameron International will pay the cost of the additions to the building that include an 8" concrete slab,1500 SF of office space, 3 jib cranes, 1 overhead crane, a wash-bay area and two covered exterior additions. The oversight of construction was contracted by BEDC with Plyler Construction Company located in Sherman Texas and R.A.C. Construction Inc., Saint Jo, Texas.

The Retail Coach

BEDC Gets Demographic News

The Retail Coach In early 2012, the BEDC Team hired 'The Retail Coach' to complete an up-to-date demographic analysis for Bowie, including a Trade Area and Leakage analysis. The Leakage analysis will allow some real tools for recruitment needs, this will target items that folks from our Trade Area are traveling outside our area to purchase, and or to participate in - in other words - how and where people in living in our Trade Area are spending their money.

BEDC Nears Completion on the Spec Building

The BEDC Team is nearing completion on the Speculative Building that sat empty for more than 7 years. The building will be the new home of a maintenance facility for Cameron International. They will employee approximate 15 employees at this facility and will have an economic impact of $1,000,000 plus. The build out will cost $959,000.00 of Economic Development funds with a 5-year return on investment, costing the use of sales tax dollars zero at the end of the 5-year lease agreement with Cameron.

If you would like to know more about this project, contact the BEDC office.
